The event, sponsored by the NSF National Research Traineeship award, features a series of high-level panels addressing:

  • Trust and Reliability: Insights from Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL), BandGap, and the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL).
  • Policy Foundations: A discussion on establishing trustworthy AI policies at UNM.
  • Space Exploration: Exploring the intersection of AI and aerospace with contributors from Northrop Grumman, Sandia Labs, and BlackVE.

Featured Plenary: Dr. Nadia Figueroa

The highlight of the afternoon will be a plenary session by Dr. Nadia Figueroa from the University of Pennsylvania. Her talk, "The Dynamics of Fluid Physical Interaction: Towards Safe, Adaptive, and Compliant Robot Intelligence," will explore how dynamical-systems perspectives allow robots to collaborate with humans more fluidly and safely.

Dr. Figueroa, a 2025 NSF CAREER Award recipient, brings extensive expertise from her work at MIT and EPFL to discuss the next generation of embodied AI that can "flow" with human environments.

Engaging the Next Generation

In addition to expert panels, the Field Day will showcase:

  • Research Presentations: Highlighting autonomous systems research across New Mexico, including contributions from NM Tech and NMSU.
  • Student Innovation: RAISE Fellows will present poster sessions and course design projects focused on Human-Centered AI.
